Biological studies conducted in the Polar regions spread over a wide range of aspects from evolutionary perspectives to harnessing biotechnological potential. Researchers are studying the composition and spatial distribution of bacteria, fungi, algae, mosses and lichens in various niches thereby addressing ecological aspects.
Objectives
(a)Diversity and distributional patterns of bacteria, cyanobacteria and fungi in the polar regions
(b) Determining the culturable and total microbial diversity in different microclimatic conditions in the region and their maintenance in vitro
(c) DNA Isolation & Sequencing
(d) determining of microbial community through DGGE
(e) comparing the microbial diversity at different sampling depths
(f) comparison of bipolar species.
