NCPOR welcomed Prof. Smith Walker from the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, currently affiliated with Shanghai University, 5–9 October 2026. During his visit, he delivered an interesting scientific talk on “The Southern Ocean and the Ross Sea: New Views and Future Changes,” sharing insights into ongoing research and emerging perspectives on these globally significant polar regions and their changing environments.
The visit also fostered meaningful scientific exchange through discussions with the Ocean Observation & Modelling and PRAISE groups, exploring potential research synergies and future collaborations. An interactive session with NCPOR students and Early Career Researchers (ECRs) provided a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas, discuss research interests, and gain perspectives from an internationally renowned scientist, inspiring the next generation of polar and ocean researchers.
