Guidelines for PhD and Post-Doc Applications at NCPOR
The National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR), under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India, is a premier Institution dedicated to polar and marine research. It plays a pivotal role in advancing scientific understanding of the Polar Regions and oceans. NCPOR's mandate encompasses a wide range of scientific activities, including polar expeditions, oceanographic research, climate studies, and environmental monitoring. The Centre’s state-of-the-art facilities, cutting-edge research initiatives, expert guidance, and multidisciplinary approach makes it an ideal hub for scholars and researchers interested in exploring the complexities of polar and marine environments.
GUIDELINES FOR PHD APPLICATION:
NCPOR invites applications for Ph.D. programme:
Eligibility :
● Candidates having a first-class M.Sc./M.Tech. ((60% or more) or equivalent grades) in Marine Sciences/ Oceanography/ Atmospheric Sciences/ Geology/ Geophysics/ Earth Sciences/ Meteorology/ Physics/ Mathematics or related fields.
● Candidates should have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET-JRF) conducted by CSIR/UGC/DBT/DST or should have been provisionally selected for INSPIRE Ph.D. fellowship.
● The age limit is 28 years at the time of application. Age relaxation will be as per the GOI norms.
● Candidates may be called for an interview only after all the above necessary inputs are received.
● Selected candidates should register for a Ph.D. on a specific topic with one of the recognized universities within two years of joining.

GUIDELINES FOR POST-DOC APPLICATION:
NCPOR invites applications for the Post-Doc programme:
Eligibility :
● Candidate must have obtained Ph.D. degree from a recognized University in any field of Science or Engineering. However, the area of research should be compatible and related to those pursued in NCPOR.
● Candidates who have submitted their Ph.D. thesis and are awaiting the award of the degree are also eligible to apply.
● Candidates need to have their own fellowships. They will continue for their fellowship’s duration.
● Candidate must have Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Science or Engineering with first class (60% or more) or equivalent grades at both Bachelor’s and Master’s levels.
● The qualification prescribed is the minimum requirement and the same does not automatically make candidates eligible for the interview. Only after the initial screening of the application and considering the merit of the submitted research proposal, the candidates found suitable may be called for an interview.
● Candidate must submit a research proposal outlining the research they would undertake during their post-doctoral fellowship period, preferably in consultation with a NCPOR scientist.

2) Before starting to fill the application, please go through it and arrange all the information required to be filled in the Application Form. Candidates are requested to fill in the online Application Form with the utmost care, as no modification(s) will be allowed after its submission. NCPOR will not be responsible for any consequences arising out of incorrect/incomplete information furnished and/or failing to provide the required information on time.
3) Successful submission of the application form online does not guarantee a call for an interview.
