NCPOR deeply mourn the passing of Dr. Sisinthy Shivaji(1950-2025), one of India’s pioneering microbiologists who made outstanding contributions to the study of cold-loving microbes across the Antarctic, Arctic, and Himalayas.
A member of India’s 4th Scientific Expedition to Antarctica,
Dr. Shivaji was instrumental in documenting many previously unknown bacterial species from the polar regions.
Dr. Shivaji’s legacy continues to inspire generations of polar and microbial scientists.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
