An online meeting was convened on 18 June 2026 between the Norwegian Polar Institute (NPI) and the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR) to formally explore collaborative opportunities in the Arctic, with a specific focus on Kongsfjorden, Svalbard.
Researchers from both organisations presented their ongoing research activities and identified key areas where inter-institutional cooperation could enhance scientific understanding and research outcomes. Potential areas of collaboration discussed included carbon budget assessments, freshwater impacts, high-resolution temporal and spatial fjord observations, biogeochemical sampling, and sea-ice modelling.
The NCPOR delegation was led by Dr. Manish Tiwari, Group Director (Arctic Operations), with presentations by Dr. Divya David, Dr. Arnab Mukherjee, Dr. Anand Jain, Dr. Archana Singh, and Dr. Biswajit Roy. Presentations from NPI were delivered by Dr. Allison Bailey, Dr. Philipp Assmy, and Dr. Agneta Fransson. The meeting marks an important step towards strengthening scientific cooperation between NCPOR and NPI in advancing Arctic research.
