The celebrations of 26th Foundation Day of NCPOR.

The 26th Foundation Day celebrations of NCPOR commenced with a ceremonial lamp lighting by the Chief Guest- Dr. Prem Chand Pandey, Founding Director, NCAOR, in the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including Dr. Rasik Ravindra, Chairman RAC of NCPOR and Former Director NCAOR, and  Dr. S. Rajan, Former Director NCAOR; Dr. M. Sudhakar, Former Director, CMLRE; Dr. Thamban Meloth, Director, NCPOR, and Dr. Rahul Mohan, Group Director, Polar Sciences, NCPOR.

The 26th Foundation Day celebrations of NCPOR commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. Rahul Mohan, Group Director, Polar Sciences, NCPOR. Dr. M. Sudhakar, Former Director, CMLRE, reflected on the institute’s remarkable journey and its growing scientific contributions and commended NCPOR’s sustained progress in advancing polar and ocean research.

During the 26th Foundation Day celebrations, Dr. Thamban Meloth, Director, NCPOR, highlighted the institute’s key achievements and reaffirmed its commitment to advancing polar and ocean sciences. He emphasized India’s growing leadership and active engagement in the global polar community. Offering an academic perspective, Prof. Suman Kundu, Director, BITS Goa, underscored the importance of strengthening collaboration between academia and research institutions to create greater opportunities for young researchers and students.

On the occasion of the Foundation Day, Chief Guest Dr. Prem Chand Pandey, Founding Director of NCAOR, delivered an inspiring address reflecting on the inception of NCAOR, from its beginnings in a small room to becoming a premier research institute in a remarkably short span of time. He further highlighted India’s polar research vision and future trajectory, emphasizing the importance of innovation, strengthened collaborations, and a renewed commitment to scientific excellence in advancing the nation’s polar and ocean research endeavours.


The proceedings of the 26th Foundation Day were hosted by Dr. Avinash Kumar, Scientist, NCPOR. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Lathika N, Scientist, NCPOR, conveying gratitude to the Chief Guest, distinguished dignitaries, organisers, and attendees.
