AFoPS, SCAR and IASC Strengthen Cooperation in Polar Research.

Dr. Thamban Meloth, Director, NCPOR, and Chair of the Asian Forum for Polar Sciences (AFoPS), signed a renewed MoU between the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) and the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC) on the sidelines of the SCAR Delegates Meeting in Oslo on 17 August 2026. The agreement was signed on behalf of SCAR by its President, Prof. Gary Wilson, and on behalf of IASC by its President, Dr. Matthew Druckenmiller.

The signing was witnessed by representatives of the AFoPS Secretariat, the Director of the Polar Research Institute of China (PRIC), and the SCAR Executive Director. The renewed partnership will strengthen joint research initiatives, facilitate shared use of polar research infrastructure, and enhance the participation of Asian scientists in international polar science.

A significant step towards a more connected and collaborative future for polar research.
